my Kenyan experience
hey guys! morgan vance here :) I’m going to attempt to recap the highlights of these past two weeks in Nairobi, Kenya. firstly, i want to express my gratitude for camp. the Swamp has been my favorite place for the past ten years. to see the culture being replicated all over the world now is mind blowing and only possible with our loving and faithful God. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the Swamp Corps Kenya 2018 team. I love swamp corps because it always reminds me that God’s love is universal and his kingdom rich in love everywhere you go. it’s something that can be easily over-looked when I’m back in my own little bubble in Athens, Georgia. God worked in many ways at camp through the relationships, devotionals, and even dodgeball games. it was so encouraging to see all the kids come out of their shell. I counseled 13 year old girls for the first time and by the end of the week they felt like the little sisters I’ve always wanted. My favorite part of the trip (besides camp) was visiting Kibera, which is the largest slum in Africa. it is 6 miles long full of some of the worst living conditions. we sat in the disciples home and drank tea, started getting to know each other, and then talked about our lives as disciples facing challenges in the world, sang worship songs, and prayed together. it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced because it was a real Acts 2:44 moment [All the believers were together and had everything in common] I couldn’t help but to be overwhelmed with gratitude to the point of tears because God’s spirit was uniting all of us. the people in Kibera have a joy that is unshakable, despite their living conditions. it was a true privilege to experience that and I’ll never forget it. Kenya is so beautiful and God’s immense love for this country is evident everywhere you go. i can’t wait to see what he has in store for camp swamp in kenya and all the fruit that the Nairobi Church will see after this week. I wanna shoutout to our fearless and humble leader, Mr. Jeff. He always goes above and beyond to serve the world by sharing his faith and vulnerability. his love for kids is so pure and abundant and continues to change the world. All the glory to our good good Father for making this a safe & successful trip!
